The One Where We Talk About Fuel (Sorry)
Let's be honest: you didn't open this hoping for a riveting read. "Bin company raises prices" is nobody's idea of a page-turner. We get it. We'd rather be writing about recycling rates or community clean-ups.
But here's the thing — we'd rather tell you straight than bury it in small print. That's always been the deal with waste.london.
What's Happening
We're introducing a temporary fuel surcharge of **£10 per collection**, effective from 19th March 2026.
That's it. No elaborate fee structure. No confusing tiers. Ten quid.
Why
The ongoing situation in the Middle East has pushed fuel costs up significantly over recent weeks. Diesel isn't a nice-to-have when you run a fleet of collection vehicles across 32 London boroughs — it's the single biggest variable in what it costs us to reach your door.
We absorbed as much as we could for as long as we could. We looked at the numbers, looked at them again, had a cup of tea, looked at them a third time. The maths doesn't lie. Fuel is roughly 30% of our operating costs, and when that number spikes, we feel it in every route, every collection, every mile.
What We're Not Doing
We're not using this as cover to quietly pad margins. We're not making it permanent. We're not pretending it doesn't exist and folding it into base prices where you'd never notice.
This is a line item. It's visible. It's temporary. And it goes away when fuel prices come back down.
When It Goes Away
We'll be reviewing fuel costs monthly. The moment prices stabilise to a level where we can operate without the surcharge, it's gone. No drama, no announcement needed — it'll just disappear from your invoice. We'll post an update here when that happens.
The Uncomfortable Truth About Transparency
Here's something most companies won't tell you: it would have been easier to just raise our base prices by £10 and say nothing. Nobody reads the line items. Nobody would have noticed.
But that's not how we operate. You chose waste.london because we're upfront about what things cost. This is us being upfront about what things cost.
Questions?
If you want to talk about this — or anything else — we're here. Call us, email us, or shout at WasteBot (he can take it).
We genuinely appreciate your understanding. Running a waste collection company in London isn't glamorous at the best of times, but having customers who trust us enough to stick around when things get a bit bumpy? That's the bit that actually matters.
Thank you for your continued support.
